Heritage Teochew satay bee hoon stall at Redhill, keeping a rare local speciality alive.
Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hoon at Redhill Food Centre is one of the increasingly rare stalls dedicated to satay bee hoon, a Teochew speciality of vermicelli drenched in a thick, aromatic peanut sauce. The steady queue at this stall is proof that some traditions are well worth preserving. Each bowl comes loaded with pork slices, liver, cuttlefish, tau pok, beansprouts and kangkong, all cloaked in a rich, nutty sauce that clings to every strand of beehoon. The sauce is ground to retain some texture, delivering both depth and bite in every mouthful.
