40-year handmade bao tradition at ABC Brickworks, famous for charcoal-roasted char siew bao at under $1.
Bao Zai at ABC Brickworks is a rare find in modern Singapore: a hawker stall that still makes bao entirely by hand, a tradition Uncle Leong has maintained for over 40 years. The char siew bao at just $0.90 each is the star, filled with juicy, house-roasted char siew that carries a distinctive chargrilled flavour from a charcoal oven.Alongside the iconic char siew bao, the stall offers Big Bao stuffed with chicken, pork and egg, plus red bean bao, lotus paste bao and dim sum items like lor mai kai and sieu mai. All bao are steamed fresh in traditional bamboo trays and never kept beyond eight hours, ensuring every piece is at its best.
Drop by Bao Zai for a taste of old-school handmade bao craftsmanship that is increasingly rare in Singapore.

What a find! This dainty, bite-sized char siew bao is the perfect snack to eat on the go. The char siew filling is sweet and scrumptious, however the skin of the bao is slightly thick though.
