Hakka hawker stall at Bukit Merah View famous for its freshly made lei cha and traditional Hakka stuffed tofu.
Hakka Leipopo at Bukit Merah View Market and Hawker Centre is a specialist in Hakka cuisine, particularly its signature lei cha, the traditional Hakka thunder tea rice. Lei cha is a nourishing bowl of rice topped with a colourful assortment of vegetables, preserved radish, peanuts, and dried shrimp, served with a vibrant green tea-based soup made from pounding basil, mint, and other herbs. The soup is poured over the rice and mixed together, creating a complex, herbaceous meal that is as healthy as it is flavourful.Hakka Leipopo also serves traditional Hakka stuffed tofu and yong tau foo, where tofu and vegetables are filled with minced meat paste and either steamed or fried. The stall is a rare find, as dedicated Hakka hawker stalls are increasingly uncommon in Singapore. The lei cha here is prepared with care, using fresh herbs that give the soup its distinctive, aromatic green colour and invigorating taste.
The Bukit Merah View location draws both Hakka purists and curious diners eager to experience this heritage dish. It suits anyone who appreciates nourishing, vegetable-forward meals with deep cultural roots. Try a bowl at Hakka Leipopo at Bukit Merah View for a taste of Hakka heritage that is both wholesome and deeply satisfying. This is food that feeds the body and honours tradition.
