Iconic Tiong Bahru hawker stall serving silky shui kueh topped with savoury chye poh and chilli since the 1950s.
Jian Bo Shui Kueh is one of Tiong Bahru Market''s most storied stalls, with roots stretching back to the 1950s when it was founded by the grandparents of the current operators. The stall specialises in shui kueh (steamed rice cakes), serving up silken, slightly jiggly cakes topped with a generous mound of savoury chye poh (preserved radish), a drizzle of sweet sauce, and a dollop of chilli sauce. The combination is deceptively simple yet deeply addictive. The stall has been recognised with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, cementing its status as a must-visit at Tiong Bahru Market. The shui kueh is steamed fresh throughout the day, ensuring each plate arrives warm and soft, and the chye poh topping is fried to order for maximum aroma and crunch.
It is a dish that exemplifies how the best hawker food comes from doing one thing exceptionally well. No visit to Tiong Bahru Market is complete without a plate of Jian Bo''s shui kueh. It is a taste of old Singapore that has stood the test of time, one silky cake at a time.

The standard has dropped drastically for the shui kueh. It is kind of machine made frozen style. Not recommended at all!! The chee cheong fun is worst, so hard and plastic taste and it cost $3+ .
Another Big Bite
Shui Kueh is stiffer not so soft-firm like usual. Radish tasted kinda tiny burnt but still fragrant and sweet-savory. Maybe, I bought it in the evening. Still a good old time snack.

My family still swears by the OG Jian Bo chwee kueh stall at Tiong Bahru Market over all the other franchise stalls. That perfect firmness and smoothness of the steamed rice cakes and the generous pile of fragrant, sweet-salty preserved radish… pure, nostalgic bliss.
