Maxwell Food Centre's famous chilled soya beancurd with a silky-smooth texture.
Lao Ban Soya Beancurd is one of Maxwell Food Centre's most famous stalls, known for its chilled, jello-like soya beancurd that broke the mould of traditional hot tau huay. The beancurd is smooth, slightly sweet and available in original and almond flavours, served cold in a plastic tub — a refreshing dessert that became a social media sensation. The stall's popularity means queues can be long, but the turnover is fast. Lao Ban popularised the cold beancurd trend in Singapore, and the Maxwell outlet remains a pilgrimage site for tau huay lovers. At just a dollar or two per portion, it is one of the best-value desserts in the CBD.
No visit to Maxwell Food Centre is complete without a tub of Lao Ban Soya Beancurd — the silky-smooth dessert that redefined tau huay in Singapore.
