La Casetta opened in early July at 69 Spottiswoode Park Road, in the quieter stretch between Outram Park and Kampong Bahru. HungryGoWhere's Evan Mua finally sat down there in early September and found handmade pasta and Roman-leaning pizzas still under $30, plus a weekday lunch that starts at $18. It is not a secret anymore once a national food site publishes the address, but it is still easier to walk in than a Neil Road tasting room on a Friday.
A green shophouse, not another cream trattoria
The walls are a loud Solero green, with orange and red accents. Mua compared it to old-school Italian rooms rather than the current cream-and-timber template. Prints hang on the walls. There is a pet-friendly alfresco strip outside for coffee and people-watching. Saturday and Sunday open at 8am, which is the hint that this place wants morning coffee as much as dinner pasta.
Outram Park MRT is the station. Spottiswoode Park Road is a short walk once you get your exits right. The unit sits off the Duxton and Neil Road crush, which is why a Thursday lunch still had seats when Mua visited, even if the room was not empty. If you are coming from Tanjong Pagar after work, it is an easy 10 to 15 minutes on foot depending on the lights at Kampong Bahru Road.
Thin crust, roasted pumpkin, and pasta that runs past the usual carbonara list
Pizzas here are closer to Roman than Neapolitan: thin, crunchy crust instead of a puffy cornicione. The pie Mua flagged is zucca, guanciale e burrata at $24, with roasted pumpkin, fior di latte, guanciale, burrata, and sage. The pumpkin does the sweet-contrast job honey usually does on a four-cheese pie. If that reads too rich, margherita classica is $20 and quattro formaggi e tartufo is $25.
Fresh pasta is made in house. The range includes ravioli di ricotta alla vodka at $25 and cappelletti di vitello with veal and foie gras at $28. Mua ordered tagliolini neri al granchio at $26: squid-ink strands, a briny sauce, plenty of crab. The kitchen cooks the pasta a notch past al dente, which is how a lot of Singapore tables prefer it. Say so if you want it firmer.
Weekday lunch if you work around Outram, dessert if you have room
The weekday lunch menu is the practical play for offices along Kampong Bahru and the hospital cluster. A healthy bowl of mixed greens, burrata, pesto, and roasted pistachio is $18. Panini start at $18. The prosciutto panini is $20 and large. Pranzo combos pair a homemade cold brew with aglio olio or pomodoro spaghetti and a protein: pollo at $24, salmone at $26, manzo tenderloin cubes at $27.
Tiramisu is $14, built with Valrhona chocolate and a strong coffee note. That is not a cheap add-on relative to the pasta, so share it. Hours: Tuesday to Friday 11am to 3pm and 6pm to 10pm. If you need a booking for a group, message them rather than assuming walk-in on Saturday night.
Saikyo Pasta already covers cheap Japanese-Italian in Tanjong Pagar. La Casetta is the other direction from Outram, with a different crust and a lunch set that actually fits a workday. Go for the $24 pumpkin pizza or the $26 crab tagliolini, not for a tasting-menu story.
